the dodo

In December 2020, our special needs girl, Storm, was selected to feature on The Dodo! After being rescued in the middle of a rain storm at only 2 days old and later discovering that she has Cerebral Hypoplasia, Stompy Stormy quickly became a rescue favorite at The Little Lion Foundation!

The scratching post

Earlier this month, Mayor Robert Garcia’s office released Long Beach Animal Care Services’ 2019 data, which again showed a continuing increase in live release, i.e., return to owner, pulls by rescues, transfers, and a decrease in euthanasia procedures. The latter have steadily gone down since 2010; the data graph shows euthanasia rates to be around 12% of what they were 10 years ago.

GRUNION GAZETTE

Three passionate leaders from two different cat rescue organizations, the Little Lion Foundation and Helen Sanders CatPAWS, came together to create the Little Paws Project Nursery. Claudia Otis and her daughter Jessica Otis, founder of the Little Lion Foundation, joined fellow cat lover Helen Sanders and Cat PAWS board member Deborah Felin in this endeavor. Their joint organization, Little Paws Project Nursery, was founded to care for the city’s overwhelming number of underage and neonatal kittens and help them become viable for adoption.

long beach press telegram

“Too many continue to die without even being given a chance,” one of the nursery’s creators Claudia Otis said, “so we came together and opened a kitten nursery that serves as a safe place for these tiny kittens to have a chance to live.”

long beach local news

There’s a movement happening in Long Beach that’s helping the most vulnerable kittens survive & thrive when there may be no other hope for these fragile lives- The Long Beach Little Paws Project. Each year, hundreds of kittens under 8 weeks of age are killed simply because they are not yet ready to be adopted. The Long Beach Little Paws Project has a direct hand in reversing this outcome.
